Songket showcases the Malay hand-woven textile in splendour and finery. The spectacular work of art is the pride of generations of Malay weavers. Their high quality skill and creativity are seen in their stunning designs and meticulous weaving.

The textile merchants who came to the shores of the Malay Archipelago (before Malaya) assisted in furthering the growth of the hand-woven textile, especially in the East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

In the early years, the motif and colour of songket reveal the status and position of the wearer. The songket was once woven only for the royalties and the aristocrats, using fine silk and gold threads. Nowadays, practically anyone could adorn themselves in songket, either in silk or cotton thread. Songket is worn at ceremonial events, official functions and weddings.

The elegant of songket has extended to fashionable accessories such as shoes and bags, classic frames, corporate and home wall art piece, cushions & bolsters and other household accessories.

To this day, the songket weavers remain proud and unflinching on producing hand-woven art piece,as carried out by the earlier generations. As if time stands still, it is remarkable to observe the weavers using the traditional loom or kek to weave classicdesign from motif and embellishment. The weaving process involves challenging creative mind-mapping and amazing memory and detailed calculation.
